BTS won't eat

We had a BTS given to us a few months ago and for about the last 6 weeks, its decided it doesn't want to eat. We had run out of the "monkey chow" his former owner brought over with him and it was going to be a bit before we could get more for him. I've tried everything, and I've since gotten another bag of monkey chow, but he still won't eat. The only thing he'll eat is f/t mouse pinkies and an occassional egg. Both which I've heard should only be given in moderation.

Anyone had experience with a reluctant eater?

I don't mean to come off rude, but just double checking, you've tried all the worms and crickets? Are his temps up right? Mine will eat can cat food, I chop up collared greens and kale greens and mix it in the can cat food. My only other idea is the good ole fecal test at the vet to double check he doesn't have something. Hope it works out or someone has a better idea for ya.

Don't know if this is of any good for you but I'm member to www.bluetongueskinks.net it's a great site for them specifically.

Thanks for the input, Jen. I tried different bugs. He turned his nose up at them. I put in kale, collards, squash and a couple grapes (which he will eat occassionally), but most of the time it doesn't look like he's touched it at all. Same with cat food.
I've gone to bluetongueskink when he was first brought to us and quite a few times since. I'd never had one before so I gave myself a crash course in basic care. I was hoping someone here may have a trick they could suggest to get him to start eating again.

Could he have maybe developed a taste or gotten "spoiled" and only wants pinks and eggs? (I know thats going out on a limb, but I've seen dragons do it, so figured I'd ask)

It is very possible you have spoiled yours but I could be wrong. I used to have a picky BTS but he eventually grew out of it. For me it used to be the only things I could get him to eat were, dog food, cat food, and blue berries.

I got him to try other things by doing the same thing Musicanimal did. I would mix different foods into his favorite foods. Then eventually he began to like new things once I tricked him inot trying it. Seriously its like trying to get a little kid to eat their greens.

How long do you leave his food dish in with him? I know mine will pick out all of his favorite things right away and then he would come back an hour later and eat his greens.

Well, it may not have been a good idea, but I got him to try some chicken baby food and he did decide to eat about a teaspoon of it. I had cooked some chicken up for my monitors and offered him a few bites and he seemed to really enjoy it. Should I try maybe tucking some small chicken pieces into a fresh dish of greens?

I work really bizzarre hours, but normally, food dishes are put in at around 10 am and removed at about 7 pm.

I'm not sure how old this little guy is. He's just a little bit over a foot long. His previous owner said he was young, but never got any more specific. Is it normal for them to get picky from time to time?
