Hello everyone, I have been inspired by some of the other cage set ups i have seen on here and i have decided to construct my own foam rock backround/climping area. I have already purchased the foam for my project as well as the glue and i am in the designing stages of my project. My question is what should i use to cover the foam after i have completed construction to make the product have a rocky appearance? I have looked around a little bit and im wondering if this joint compound from the home depot would work well? any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks alot.

Here is a link to the product im thinking of using...

RE:

As long as your going to completely seal it when your done with something I think you can use just about any indoor floor/bathroom product with low voc for your form and structures. As long as its sealed that is. I know when you get to that stage you will have lots of trouble finding info on a definitive safe sealer, If money isn't an option check out "Pondguard:, Non toxic clear waterproof sealer. Or you can go for a no/low VOC Polyurethane and let dry for a week. Once your left with a hard dry layer, the harmful solvents that kept the sealer in a liquid form will have all evaporated away; leaving you a surface you could eat off of. When in doubt smell it, if you smell anything it needs to dry longer. Don't use any grout/joint compounds without sealing as they ALL give off vapors for years if not sealed, unless its something like silicone caulk.
