Building an incubator??

Cooler incubator: Hello, I want to build my own incubator so I have more space than the hovabators I use. If any one has experience please tell me if this will work. Materials I want to use.
Cooler
heat cable
esu thermostat
pvc pipe
plastic shelving

I want to drill 2 holes in the side of the cooler. One hole for the heat cable that will be wrapped in a circle on the bottom and one for the thermostat. I want to put pvc pipe over top of the heat cable with plastic shelving for the shelf. Is there anything I would be missing or anything I should do different??
Would this thermostat be ok or will the temps fluctuate to much???
