Burying heat mats...

Hi. I have a large heat mat that takes up almost all the floor space in my viv. Do you think it would be ok to bury half of it under more substrate than the other side thus making the surface cooler? It's not the surface temps I'm worried about, but the mat getting too hot underneath it all.

What do you think?

If it's an under tank heater with a sticky side, you should stick it to the bottom of the tank, if you can. If your tank is glass, acrylic, plexi, you will be fine sticking it directly to it. The heat comes through better that way, and there's no danger of something happening with water or whatnot. If it's another material than those, I'm not sure how you'd handle the heat pad...
