I own a leopard gecko and I have a two Tier rack so I have another free spot for a tank. I went to my ******** today to pick up some crickets for my leo and saw a baby corn snake thats pink and white and I asked to take her out. They let me handle her and I fell in love with her. Now I need some advice on the size of tank... My rack can only hold a 10 gallon tank and I read you need at least a 20 for a growing corn. Now can i get a 20g height wise or do I need a 20 gallon length wise? I do not want to purchase this snake if I can not give it the proper size needed for it to be comfortable. So is the 10 gallon big enough?? and When he gets close to full size would the 20 gallon HEIGHT be good enough???

If the 10 gal. is big enough depends on the size of the corn you're purchasing. If it's a hatchling, then the 10 is fine for about 1 to 3 months. If it's an adult, then I'd suggest a 20 gal. long or 32 qt. plastic tub to house that snake.

Probably the MOST IMPORTANT aspect of housing that snake is that you make absolutely sure that you have a secure, escapeproof top on that tank. If you have even the slightest doubt that the top isn't secure enough, then take measures until you're 110% sure it's secure. You wouldn't believe how small of a space that snake can fit through.

But if you really like that corn, and it sounds like you do, make sure you have the right size enclosure and go get it! :main_thumbsup: And feel free to ask questions. :main_yes:

With corns, the it's more the measurements of the tank than the gallon (maybe using gallons is an american thing though). Corns prefer to lay low than climb, so a 12" squared tank that is 3ft high might be 10 gallons but is not good for a corn. For a hatchling, a 18" x 10" herp is fine, a fully grown corn will need a 3ft x 2ft viv. It's also better to keep them in a wooden viv rather than glass and as ink_scorpion says, make sure it is completely secure because it will escape otherwise.

Good luck and be sure to post pictures :)

I'm just going to ditto on the secure thing. My ball has shifted 20lbs of weight on his tank to escape before. He's a bit of an expert at it though.

It is a hathling cornsnake but I wont have the room for it when it gets bigger because the biggest size my rack can hold is a 10 gallon, and I dont want to get her then sell her when shes too big

It'll certainly outgrow a 10 gal. over time, no doubt about that. You sure you can't make a 20 gal. long fit in your space? Without getting out a tape measure, I think the length difference is about eight inches. That's not that much. Corns make great pets IMHO, and I don't want to see you pass on your dream if you can make it work. :)

Its a metal rack I might be able to remove the iron bars on the top part and switch my leopard geckos terrarium to the bottom... I have a very small room... I went to the pet store and saw I think a nice size tank for 35$ for a full grown... I really want to get this corn snake I have no idea what morph she is.. but shes absolutely beautiful. I would rather buy the full-grown tank then keep switching tanks. The only problem I have is space.
