Buying a leo

Should I buy from the petstore, or wait until the reptile expo swings around again, or order online? I only got about 120 $ to buy hides + leo+ heat pad (I have everything else) I'm only looking for a normal one, that I can get for around 30-40 here, and 20 online. only problem w/ online shipping is that its cold up here, and its like 50 bucks to do it.

If you don't have the money to buy online then I would wait for the next expo. I don't like pet stores for numerous reasons so I avoid them like the plague. I might buy equipment from them but I do not buy animals.

Since you are limited on $$ by waiting this allows you to put away more. Trust me you do not want to skimp on heating equipment, since it is so vital to their survival. I would also suggest that you buy all of the cage equipment before you buy the gecko. Get the cage set up before hand, this will help ease the geckos stress.

I would look on ebay for a UTH they have some good deals on them, that's where I got all mine from.

Also if you want to get creative make your own hides, search under the housing forum there is a few threads about it. I can make 7 hides for less than $6 with supplies from dollar tree even wal-mart.

Edit: heres a link to the hide ideas..

Oh, I will, I have a Heat gun coming(for my beardie of course, but its not like they cant ... share...)

The next expo is next month though... lol, I really cant wait. I have a smaller sort of enclosure, its a 10 gallon I do believe. Its not permadent, but for my budget it is. I wouln't be able to save any more money ( I don't have a job, I'm a high school student)

With patience you'll should get a much healthier leo. Wait for the expo & stalk pet stores for clearance items. You don't need to buy hides now. Tupperwear containers will do. You can upgrade later when the funds show up. Check out Freecycle.org (with parents permission of course) for your area that's where I find all my tanks (yes, it is totally free).

I'm the only one who uses the computer... I can go to whatever website I wish. I'm only a few months away from my license too.

Good luck with the license. I put the 'rents comment since you said you're in high school--that's what happens when you have kids, you have to look out for 'em.

Yeah I'm debating whether or not to get 1-2 at the petstore tomorrow whenI'm there...

I mean, I can get 2 for about half to price of what I'd be paying online(with shipping and all) if their not trying to scalp there should I get them there?

I wouldnt suggest putting 2 in a 10 gallon thats far too small. I would suggest just getting a part time job and making the investment once youve saved up. have you thought about the cost of food? supplements? etc...?
I'm just saying although youve planned for it somewhat dont just buy which ever one you can get cheapest. you run the risk of getting a poorly cared for gecko and possibly even a sick one...take your time.

I have everything except heat pad, and hides, I used a caresheet on one website that said 2 pre 1 years can be in a 10 gallon together... Whatever, It shouldn't have crossed my mind, I'm most likely buying from byrandom..

also, I cant get a job, I'm only 15, the only places around here that have jobs are food prep, and such, for that you must be 16. I don't buy the food also, My dad/guardian does... thats the deal. I set up the enclosure, I get the animal, they buy the food. My grandma is currently buying my beardies crickets..

a 10gallon is too small for 2 leos ,you need at least a 20gal, you also have to give them calcium, download the caresheet from one of the breeders here, also you keep the leos on paper towels, reptile carpet or slate tile.

I just got a leo, shes pretty jumpy, but shes only a babe, 2-3 months old. Has her original tail (matches up with her body markings perfectly) and she likes her moist hide (still need to trip to the dollar store tomorrow for 2 more. she hasn't seen the crickets yet, but their in there, she has a water bowl, and reptile carpet. Sometime this weekend she moves to a lee's animal sanctuary, the big one with the fancy staircase thing.

Got her at a petco a far ways away, they actually take care of their reptiles GASP...

Fresh bottled water, crickets the right size, reptile carpet, the only problem they had is that they had a - semi aggressive male housed in, who had token off a few tails.. NOT MINE THOUGH.

so... yeah.

(she/he is about a normal leo, no mutations)
