I am interested in getting a reptile as a new pet for myself and after some research found that a gecko was a great idea.

I was wondering what the best type of gecko is best to get for a first time reptile owner. (Keep in mind that I'm Australian)

Thanks guys.

How are you doing, mate? Leopard geckos are a great beginner's reptile: typically they're docile, charming, can withstand a wide temp range, require little space and no uv lighting , as they are nocturnal. I have read that the same can be said about underwoodisaurus milli, an Australian species, although I've never owned one, but hope to one day.

Unfortunately, Leopard Geckos are illegal in Australia. However, native reptiles such as Thicktailed Geckos (Underwoodisaurus milli), Knob Tailed Geckos, and Bearded Dragons are not.

I didn't realize Leo's were not allowed in Australia, but it makes sense if one considers the risk to so many native reptile species. Anyway, a breeder that owns many different species of knob tails likes U. milli best.
