Hey so I've always though my cage has been lacking and that there is probably a better way to set it up. So this is how it currently is...

Has bark flooring ( i believe fir) some flat stones beside the edge of the cage with the heating pad. She has a half log (its fake) that's close to the heating pad while her food dish/ bowl is farther away.
Any suggestions on what to feed her (after she recovers from mouth rot :( ) ?
Floor (isnt it called substrate or something)?

Thanks!!!!!!!!

You should not use the bark substrate, she could be eating a cricket or something and when she strikes it she could bite the bark and eat it and that could lead to serious impaction, she could also cut her mouth on the bark and it could lead to mouth infections (like mouth rot). instead of bark you should use repti carpet or paper towels. Its the best idea to feed her crickets but you can also feed her meal worms as her main food but make sure to gut load the meal worms. I hope this helps :)

Thank you so much!!!!!!!! I'm thinking that when the occasional worm manages to get out of the bowl she tried going for one and bit the bark...... Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!! How do you clean the repti carpet and I will look into getting some crickets and I will deffinantly be getting some vitamin dust to gut load the worms.

For the reptile carpet you wanna keep a few extra carpets around so you have a extra for when she makes a mess or the carpet has been in there a while and needs to be cleaned. There are multiple ways to clean the carpet (you can search it online and see which one you prefer) most people put it in the wash with a type of bleach that is safe for reptiles. (Sorry that I am not too knowledgeable on the topic of repti carpet because I use Paper Towels) But repti carpet is defiantly a good choice of substrate, the only downside about it is that your leo can get her toes stuck in the carpet but that rarely happens. And for the gut loading the worms you don't even have to dust the mealworms. How you gutload the worms is that you feed them foods like potatoes or carrots. you can also feed them cricket quencher (you can find it at most pet stores like petsmart) I hope this helped and if you have any more questions I would be glad to answer them :)

Even when gut loading meal worms they need to be dusted with calcium with D3 2 or 3 times per week and a multivitamin 2 or 3 times per month. And leave a bowl of pure calcium (calcium with no D3) in the tank for the geckos use.

I use slate as my substrate and it works really well. Easily cleaned as well, and looks nice (not that the leos care :p). But paper towel is definitely cheaper and easy too. The only thing I have to add is you should have more than the one hide. You should have at least one on the warm side, one on the cool side (so they can self regulate their temp and not have to be out in the open), and a humid hide to help with shedding. :main_thumbsup:
