one day i accidentaly dropped a cherry tomato in my geckos tank and he immediatley attacked it and tried to eat it (i was tossing the cherry tomato in the air.) i took it away from him before he could get to it and i wondered if leos are able to eat fruits, and if they are. is it ok to feed them to leos on occasion?

No, they do NOT eat any kind of vegetable matter. They are strictly Insectivorous.

No, no fruits are ok.

I seriously hope that you are joking...

The gecko went after the movement, because that is how they recognise prey. Kinda like the T-rex in Jurassic Park :main_rolleyes:

That´s not completely true.
I´ve a picture of an Leopardgecko eating a peace of banana. It isn´t normal for them and you don´t have to feed that but I have the prove they eat bananas^^.
I can scan it tomorrow and show you if you want^^

I've heard many stories about people feed fruit to the geckos and read some where that scientists have seen them eating fruit occasionally in their natural environment. If you choose to feed them fruit as a treat (as they do not digest it), make sure it's fruit baby food or something very very soft and supplement it with vitamins.

A breeding female of mine I would mix her vitamins with a bit of banana baby food to get her to eat them out of her dish.

I don't see any harm in a little. Espessially seeing at how a lot of people gutload their insects on apples or other fruits or veggies, the leos in the long run are obtaining some of those protiens.

Never substitute fruit for a regular leopard gecko diet.

????

I dont know about the whole fruit thing, personaly i supose you could try it but i would stay far away from store bought fruit simply because fruit farmers spray the crops with insectacide and prob other chems.

Its the same as catching crickets from outside and feeding them to your geckos, you simply dont know whats on them! But baby food is prob most safe i would say. (organic)

Just my thoughts.

Everything that I have read says that they should only be fed insects. But I am sure that each gecko is different and there probably are those that eat some occasional fruit products. I think that I would just be very careful about giving it too them since it isn't their normal diet. JMO.
