I have two leopard geckos That I had for over 2 years (going to be 3 in march). I thought for sure that I had two females, as there was no breeding, no eggs, no aggression or not wanting to eat (like male gecko distracted by female.. none of that). Also no hemi bulge on either one, also they have been together for those 2 years no problem. But I noticed my girl consula laying eggs (lose weight and saw eggs in her tummy) and had seen breeding behavior (mating) 4 weeks before that, that clutch however was infertile/ rotted/dented and yellowed and were soft. Now she layed another 2 eggs (there covered in damp moss and heated), and now I want to know if I have two lesbian geckos or a male gecko that has no hemi bulge. It's weird ethier way, that over two years later and now they decide to breed or female suddenly producing false eggs. I have pics attached. Both are good weight consula(one who layed eggs) is 57 grams she lost almost 10 grams though... and gamzee (the maybe male) is 84 grams tell me if need better pictures. 20140815_143455.jpg 20140815_143837.jpg 20140815_143456.jpg 20140815_143520.jpg

Females can produce eggs without mating, they just won't be fertile. I am pretty sure that if you had a male
without hemipenes he wouldn't be able to reproduce. That what the hemipenes are. They are the male reproductive organs. Anywho, I think you just have two females and one is dropping infertile eggs.

Still doesn't explain the mating behavior... like actual on top of each other mating and exactly 4 weeks later there's eggs... I didn't mean no hemipenes per say I just mean if its possible for it to be not visible. Also The one who I thought had a chance of being male was the one on top. I guess if the eggs do hatch I will know XD

Anything is possible but no, it's not likely. That is what I am saying, the bulges are the sexual reproductive organs. To put it simply would be the same as a male without testicles. So, let's say it is a male. The sperm wouldn't be viable.

Well as long as my geckos are healthy I'm happy, just thought I ask incase anyone else experienced it who knows. The eggs look good still so will keep treating them if they were fertile just incase, who knows with nature XD. There's a species of lizards were all males are extinct (males did exist at one point) and the other females take on the role of male to stimulate female into laying eggs, natures bizarre XD
