I just got my first leopard gecko yesterday and today I offered him food and he took 10 mealworms. He acted like he wanted more. Are their eyes bigger then their stomachs or do leopard geckos know when their full? I dont want to overfeed him, but I dont want to not give him food if hes still truely hungry either. Thanks in advance.

hmm :main_huh: i'd say if he's still hungry, i'd let him eat more..I think they know when they are full. but hey i am no expert on the matter.

If I am correct, a gecko will only over eat one time. When they do over eat it causes them to reguritate, letting them know what their 'limit' is. A general rule to follow when feeding is to give your gecko as much as it will eat in a 15-20 minute period.

I have a 6 month old leo right now that will gladly eat 20 or so insects everyday, but there are days that he will stop eating around 10-15. They will stop when they're full :)

Yeah I had a breeder tell me that they usually won't overeat... Which sets them apart from other lizards.

i would have to agree that they will eat what they want and leave the rest...

our male leo... he will eat 15-20+ mealies sometimes... other times he wont touch em... just like somedays he will eat 1 super worm... but the other day he ended up with 6!!! i was impressed :p

our younger female leo... she tops out around 10 mealies... sometimes a lil more... 1 superworm ever couple days... sometimes 2 if shes in the mood :main_evilgrin:
