Just curious... is there a benefit to feeding a Leo superworms rather than mealworms? Or, is it just good for variety?

How about the mandibles on superworms? Do they tend to fight back when a Leo is chomping down on them? I'm justs concerned for the safety of my little guys... I don't their food to hurt them.

As with any lively feeder, you don't want to let them roam about the cage. Some of mine are tong fed, others prefer the dish. If I ever see a loose super that has escaped the dish (occasionally), it comes out right away. They do bite and eat poop, so in the trash they go. I raise feeders, both meals and supers, so there is always appropriate sized supers for smaller gex. Hatchlings start on meals, graduate to small supers at about a month to two old. They really like the action of a little super stirring around in the mealie bowl. It stimulates all the worms and excites the gex :)

Yep, it's fine. 500 free super worms is great! I usually pay 30$ for them. I think they are better than meal worms because you don't have to feed as much. 3-4 every other day for adults is good. I would say 2-3 every other day for your guy.

Thanks! My friend's dad is giving away about 500 supers for free! :D

I know how he feels- my box is too full right now too. It takes a good 6 months to get a decent breeding colony going and be able to feed off. But they can sure get out of hand. Unlike meals, that can be refrigerated. I donate excess to a couple rescues, give to my vet, and sell off boxes of 200 to our herp society members. And give away bedding with little wigglers in it. Very cool that you're getting some free :)

you can donate some to me anytime! i had to start my super colonies over and im going through about 10k supers a month...

Shawn, one thing I did to fill in the proverbial blank was to order a k of baby supers along with the larges while getting the colony going from greatlakeshornworm.com. To pupate they of course are in separate chambers but, once they curl, they can be together waiting to pupate. That trick allowed me to produce more beetles much faster. I use a bead box, and it has one large space as well as all the small ones. Curlies go together in the big spot, wigglers in individual spots.

I tried offering him Supers, he seems to have no interest in them whatsoever... He'll look at them like he's about to eat them, lick it, then walk away.
