Small tupperware with a hole cut out on the lid (or on the side). Very simple, not aesthetically pleasing though.

Of the two hides you posted I like the bottom one better (it matches my gecko's water dish :) ). For hides I use plastic tubs with holes cut in them, toilet paper tubes or paper towel rolls, the packaging my cell phone came in, and an old milkbones box full of holes to make a second floor.
Be creative and look around the house; before you throw out or recycle a small box think "how can I use this, would my gecko like it as a hide or climbing toy?"

You may want to find a hide that is enclosed in the back, with only one entry hole. Leos seem to enjoy the dark, quiet hides.

I like the Exo Terra hides, simple but effective :) They dont look too bad either. I also have the medium rocky cave things and they love those :) Theyre good to hide in but they can climb up on them too and have fun :)

Just a word of caution, price doesnt mean its the best ;) Geckos dont understand that something cost more than something else and are similar to children in the fact that they can have more fun in the box than the actual toy :laugh4:

i make my hides out of tupperware containers with a hole cut out. Then to make them more appealing, i glue fake leaves over them. i also fold fake leaves over the cut i made and glue them around the cut so there's no sharp edges. my leo loves her hides that i made for her :)

My gecko did that when I put in a better humid hide, but then at night she explored it and she doesn't leave it a lot expect to poop and get a little more belly heat by the heat pad.:main_yes:

Give them some time.

My Samir didn't go near his new humid/warm hide until the temp dropped a few degrees in the house, and now he loves it

I have the first one you put up and I and the Leo's love it! They can climb on it, or go in it and inside there are ledges. Put it up to the side of the tank and you can watch 'em. My SHTCB takes "bottom bunk" while my hypo always takes "top bunk." Too cool.

I also use the medium exo-terra fake stone hides, and they like them too.

This may seem a little simple, but i use these hollowed out Coconuts. It is cut in half and one entrance. They love it! and it was extremely cheap, i found it at a local petstore.
