candle eggs

can you candle eggs to much? could you blind the hatchling in the egg with the light? if candled to much what could happen?

I've always been told to candle it quickly, more of a chance to overheat the egg with too much exposure to the candling source. Not sure if that's true exactly but in the wild they are not candled (obviously) so it is best to keep it to a minimum and quick intervals when necessary.
