I have a female that I adopted out the 19th. She died just a few days ago. The lady emailed me claiming she was told she had crypto due to her kink tail and lose of apitate. The crazy lady has blocked my emails. I cannot find out anything that happened or the vet she went to. Info about the female. She was housed alone here at my house, ate just days before I adopted her out. She weighed 50 grams and now she is dead. None of my other geckossow any signs of anything. They haven't lost any weight well except my male who has had a prolapse for about 3 weeks now, and then there are my females that look to be gravid and the one that is laying. But even she hasn't lost more then about 15 grams and laid 4 eggs. I am very careful, my females never see my females and only my male sees one female and only one a day. I guess I am here to find any and all info about what you guys may think it may be. Thanks for any ideas!

Unfortunately, we cannot be responsible for how others take care of the geckos that they receive from us. Since you cannot find out any info., there's no way of knowing what could have happened.. but I would put my bet on the crazy lady not taking proper care of the poor little thing, since she's not letting you investigate anything.. I am so terribly sorry for what happened :(

thanks everyone. thats what everyone else said. I know but it still hurts. I have had her since last June and she turned one the day after i adopted her out. It kills me to know she is dead. I just can't imagine why someone could do something like that.

I'm very sorry to hear this. So by adopted you mean you gave her the gecko for free? It sounds like she probably did something horribly wrong like cooked the poor thing or didn't give it any heat, or maybe fed it something stupid, who knows? If the gecko was healthy a week ago, I don't see what else it could be. That's sad. Let us know if you find out any more about what happened.

I'm so sorry for the pain that this crazy lady caused you, I know it REALLY hurts to lose a leo, and it can't be any easier when she doesn't help to give you closure.
:( :( :(

I bought her last june for some money and rehomed her for 25 just to make sure the person that she was going to was going to take care of her. She got rehomed on march 19th just over a month ago.

Ohhhhh Ashleigh... I'm so sorry to hear this! Trust me, without a necropsy, there is really no diagnosis of crypto. A 50 gram gecko that suddenly dies does NOT have crypto, IMO.

What a shame...

It did really upset me. I mean anytime something happens to one of my geckos. I lost another one a few weeks ago. A female I adopted to a friend. She took in a few females who were young that turned out to be males. The female ended up prego and died the next day. She was a partial snake eye. I cried. I don't know how I am going to be able to sell any geckos. I just can't imagine something happening again. i told my boyfriend I would like to breed. I have two incubators. however if it turns out my females are infertile I wont worry about breeding. i am happy with just pets. I have afts I am gong to try breeding. My geckos ar emy babies!

The weird thing is that crypto isn't always lethal. I had a few animals with crypto (who hasn't???), but after a treatment of paromomycin, they all recovered just fine! And like GoldenGate stated, a gecko that weighs 50 grams, doesn't die so sudden of crypto. Did the lady put it down or anything because she didn't want to give the medicines or anything? Shame if leo die from lazy-owner-disease....

Stevie

I'm curious

Could someone else with unfortunate experience with diagnosed Crypto in a Leo please confirm that this medicine eradicates the disease?
I had not been aware that there was now a cure on the market for Crypto in Leos

For some reason-I thought that once infected-that they could recover but would be potential carriers

Thanks
Sandy

The medicine only helps against the clinical symptoms. The animal will remain carrier of the parasite. I wasn't aware of the medicine either, but the best known reptile expert of Holland gave me the medicine for it, so and it worked, so....

Stevie
