Jon, I wouldn't suggest it for all the reasons Greg pointed out. Plus the plastic shoeboxes won't disintegrate when you wash them. Also the fact that light cannot get it would not give leos their necessary day/night cycle.
Jon, even for a few days you'd probably end up with issues. How were you planning on heating it? I would suggest running out to walmart and just dropping the 2-4 dollars on a plastic tub, assuming you weren't planning on using a UTH. If you were Petsmart usually has ten gallon tanks for $10, and it's always a good thing to have an extra laying around for the future.
thanks Jessica, i just got a lot of geckos today and i am going to walmart and petsmart for 10 gallon tanks and plastic shoeboxes. i just put them in a cardboard shoebox today with a heat lamp, but not too close to it and only covering half.
i have an empty plastic shoebox, you can send one of your geckos to me... and i'll have an empty 10 gallon tank on friday, so you can send another one then... i'll send them back, i promise :main_evilgrin:
Jon, what heat source were you planning on using originally?
As I'm sure you've read heat lamps aren't great for leos. They need belly heat. Petsmart carries UTHs for about $20 usually, which is a bit expensive. I honestly don't know much about heat cable or flex watt.
well, i'm from western pa originally and just moved to maryland this summer. plus the steelers are the best organization in all of professional sports so there's no way i'll ever become a ravens fan (they wear purple, come on)
Matt, I couldent make out what you just said, hmm.
But i'd say if you wanted to keep your geckos in a shoe box, temporarily. For no more then probably 24 hours, then i'd say it's a fine idea. Just keep a very good watch on them, and make sure there's proper ventilation, and no chance of escape.
I mean c'mon, it's no worse then someone getting a gecko shipped to them over night, right? At least he's providing food, water, and heat. It may not be the best, but I think that it could work for 24 hours.
