What is the best way to cat proof an enclosure? The tank has a screened top cover, but also two lamp fixtures will be hanging overhead. My wife has two cats in the house..........I am in the need of help.

Best way to cat proof is to put an insurmountable obstacle between the cat and your gecko's cage. Good examples might include: a wall, a door, several miles of forest, hanging the cage by a rope from the ceiling with nothing the cat can jump from within 10 feet of the cage, etc. Personally I have a gecko room that is closed from all the fizzy friends I have living in the house. My cat isn't so much of an issue as she is fat, lazy, 16, and can barely jump onto my bed. The dogs, however are obsessed and will stare at or eat anything they can find that is remotely interesting or edible.

Seriously though, it depends on the cats. If they are very active and curious you may need to lock down your geckos. If they dont care then you might be safe. Definitely make sure they can't knock the cage off of where it is kept or fall through the screen top if they walk on it, or set themselves on fire laying under heat lamps (or knock them over and set other things on fire).

Good luck!

I thought my cats would be more interested when I first got mine. They will look at them for about 10 minutes if I get a new one or a new tank. Other then that they don't pay any attention to them. I've seen pics and videos with cats playing with them. I do Not recommend trying that though :)

I noticed most cats are uninterested in reptiles since they are less active and don't move around that much. Putting catnip somewhere far away from your tank sometimes does the trick :D
