Is it okay to catch your own crickets from your backyard? I read somewhere that this isn't good for them because the crickets might contain diseases. :main_huh: What do you all think?

And can they eat earthworms? It's been raining a lot in the past week and quite a few earthworms have washed up.

It's not good to feed them anything you catch outside as you have already read that they can be bad. This is due to pestisides that they may have been exposed to. The healthest food source will be from an insect breeders, you can find many online, or buy from your local store. You can even find care sheets on how to breed your own feeders.

Full grown crickets... *shudders* No. I hate them.
But I also hate asking my dad to go buy more crickets every week(and he hates it too), so obviously raising them is way cheaper.

you can always try roaches :main_evilgrin:

they breed faster, are easier to contain than crickets (some species), they smell less and they don't chirp at sexual maturity!

in your climate they'd breed fast too!

Bah. I won't breed them. I also have a problem with adult roaches(or any adult bug for that matter).
And how big are they? I can't buy anything bigger than half an inch.

well, I don't think any kind of roaches stay under a half inch...so that's out, I agree about the mealies though....see I have no issues with many bugs, I can garb a huge handful of roaches and let them run up my arm....Rob is the one who's disgusted by it
