My roomate's recently aquired a cat.... I am not a big fan of cats but since they tolerate my 4 gecko's and Ball Python I cant really complain.. But I do have a concern This morning I found their evil pet on top of my gecko tank trying to Open the lid! I caught him in time but this just worries me for what may happen in the future.. Does anyone know or have any advice as to how to keep a cat out of a certain area.. off certain objects? or even weighting down the lids to ensure he can not get in there!

I am sure there are some reptile owners w/ various different types of pets and have had experienced this before.. Or at least I am hoping :)

I have heard if you put double sided tape on the surface where you don't want a cat they will jump up once and never again. They don't like the tape sticking to their paws. I would try it when you are home incase the lid comes off or something. We have two cats. Theone cat will not come over the child gates because she is afraid of the dog. The other cat comes over but he is too fat to jump up on the leo cages...he is more fascinated with watching the crickets than the leo anyway! The times he has gotten too pesky I have squirt him (the cat) with a squirt bottle with water.

Hope this helped!

I will try the double sided tape thing for sure!

My girlfriend is also extremely grossed out by adhesives as. They make her want to vomit *i know its weird* but she has mild OCD and IS medicated for it so I think i can get away w/ putting it on top of the tank to keep the cat away. THANKS!

Put orange peels around the area as well, cats HATE freshly peeled orange peels.

I have three cats, and only two cause me potential problems (because one is blind, and has no idea what rodents are, and that her instincts are supposed to lead her to hunt them).

What I had done was barricade my geckos in such a way that my cats can't ever get them, while in the meantime I'm getting a cabinet with glass doors so that the geckos can be completely visible and the cats can't get in.

The latter I think is the best way to make both pets happy.

Depending on the age of the cat, spray bottles definitely work. We've got a cat, Sam, who loves to be on counters, tables & basically anywhere you put food. His old owners let him do that (I think animals don't belong where food goes) he's about 12 now, so it's hard to break him of this old habit, but, I still squirt him whenever he decides to try his luck. It's working out pretty well, now I just shake the bottle & he runs =P
