ok well tryign to go with building materials, will be using 1/2 " just curious of what to go with, cedar, pine, mdf, melamine etc... i know cedar and pine etc. is not good as a substrate but will be for the rack, and i'll have to put a sealant on it anyway for the humidty right? probably wont use cedar as it's more expensive, but just a quick question that popped in my head.

Southern "Yellow" pine is a hybrid of two pine trees and is low aroma wood. That is what I would use. Just make sure you use a good non-toxic sealer.

yeah he said something is cheaper than that melamine it's noly like 20/sheet or so i have a small 4 tub rackthat's melamine but sometimes hard to get a tub out from swelling so that's what i dont want, now i can always glue shower surround on top and bottom of the shelves for that lamanant feel but again that's more cost, any good suggestions on a non toxic sealant?

I would stay away from any type of particle board. Not only will it swell, but who knows how toxic the glue they use is?

Any sealer that says non-toxic of water based should be fine. Just stay away from polyurethane, it can put off fumes after it is dry...

I think pine should work fine, or any wood for that matter. You should be coating it with a couple layers of paint & sealant anyway, so fumes shouldn't be much of an issue.
