I wasn't sure where to post this. It's not really a bad guy post so I didn't want to put it in the Business forum.

My roommate contacted this guy about a Crested Gecko he wanted to buy me.

Here is his email to the guy:

Is he still available, how old is he, and what forms of payments do you accept?

Thank you
Bobby

And this was the guys reply:

Bobby,
He's still available.Shipping is $50.00.I accept Paypal, however I must charge the 3% that Paypal charges me.So that would be $206.00 SHIPPED.I am also a little hesitant to ship in cold weather. You might have to pick him up at the main shipping office,so he isn't driving around in a cold truck.Your lucky I picked this guy up for $300.00.I'm selling all my Crested because I'm mainly a SNAKE guy and Gecko's are too much work. Let me know Ash Lopez

Some people! Don't they read Terms and conditions when signing up for stuff. Needless to say, we won't be getting anything from him.

I would bring it to the sellers attention that he is going against PayPal TOS, and tell him that he lost the sale due to it. I'm sure if he keeps doing it someone is bound to report him, whether it be you or someone else.

PayPal is OUR convenience as a seller. The only way they make money is to charge the 3%. It is against their Terms of Service for anyone to charge the buyer the 3%... As well as kind of unethical. If you have a PayPal account, you need to pay the fees, not someone else. That's just my opinion, of course....

It's like if you rent a car and your friend needs a ride, you wouldn't charge him the car rental fee. Mile by mile charge is one thing, but deffinately not the rental fee.

Even my dentist charges more if you pay with a credit card. They think they're being all crafty for calling it a "cash discount if you pay by cash or check" but it's the same damn thing.

True, I think it's in the wording though. You know, gotta love those legal loop-holes. As far as I'm aware it is against the law to charge MORE for credit card use (including Paypal). I'm not sure about charging less for cash. Stupid.

He can get in a lot of trouble no matter what he calls it. Do you remember when there was a cash discount on gas, back in the 70s? You don't see that anymore, because it was and still is illegal!!!

That's what I thought, but I wasn't 100%. I THINK it's illegal to charge a different amount based on the payment method, regardless of how they word things. I should really know this--I think I'm going to try to look it up. lol

Locally, when gas was super high if you paid with cash at Tom's you got an extra 5cents off per gallon. Wonder how they got away with that one?

PayPal is so convenient that it's worth the fees. Tell that man to get over himself a suck up the fees. :main_yes:

Wait, so what about when I pay rent? If I pay by bringing a check to the office it is one amount. If I call in my credit card number there is a "service fee" for about $15 more.
