hey you guys, good news. I just saw both the leos eat the first time since theyve been home. I guess it isnt a problem switching them from superworms to mealworms. The problem is i need/want to gutload the mealworms with something better than what they come in. When i put hte mealworms in the gutload, what should i do? Should i put them back in the fridge, and will they eat enough to be gutloaded? or should i put hte mealworms i am going to feed them in a seperate container the night before, and let them eat until they are fed to the leos?? Also, what do you guys do to make sure they are properly gutloaded???Answers,Opinions and suggestions wanted:D

i am no expert, but this is the way i gutload mine.

i buy some mealworms. I put the one i am not going to use for now in the fridge and put the ones i am going to feed my geckos in a tub with gutload. the next day i feed those to my geckos.

?? Put them in the gutload? I guess I'm not sure what you mean. I put mine in the gutload and give them carrots (or sometimes potatos) for moisture. I usually just leave them at room temp (72-74ish) because I feed them off pretty quick.

Should i put them back in the fridge, and will they eat enough to be gutloaded?
If you have more than a week's supply of them, then I'd leave them on a little gutload, give them a water source and put them in the fridge.

or should i put hte mealworms i am going to feed them in a seperate container the night before, and let them eat until they are fed to the leos??
Letting the mealworms warm up to room temperature to eat & drink for a few (4-6?) hours isn't a bad idea. That way they'll last longer when you put them in your geckos' dishes, and they'll have better nutritional value for the geckos.

Also, what do you guys do to make sure they are properly gutloaded???
I just use good gutload. lol (ProGutload from Cody @ ProGeckos)

what i meant by the "what do i do after i put them in teh gutload" is like do i just let them sit there over night, or put them in the fridge. lol sorry for the confusion. And also one last question. For the source of moisture, should i put the put the vegtable or whatever im using on the top of the bedding, or cut it up into little pieces and mixing it in with the bedding? and also sorry for the double and triple posts, my computer sometimes gets crazy

They need to stay warm to eat - so keep them at room temperature while gutloading. As far as the veggies/moisture goes, you can just put large slices on top of the gutload. Be sure to remove any uneaten bits before you put them back in the fridge!

After they're gutloaded you feed them to your geckos!

I put the carrot/potato on top. I figure the less moisture in the bedding the less chances of mold.

I don't refrigerate my meal worms either
I find that they can get condensation in the container in the fridge and a wet meal worm is a dead meal worm
I put the meal worms(usually 1000 at a time) in a small sterlite tub with a screen top and add my gut load to the bedding that they come in and any veggies greens that i am feeding the Iggy that day
I also add my scraped down cuttlebones-they climb all over them so I wonder if they are ingesting them?
I figure that it sure doesn't hurt to put them in with the worms
Mine don't stay around too long before they are all fed either and the only time that I have them morphing into beetles quickly is in the very hot summer months
