hey guys, i've had an idea for a while after i looked at a sock (i kno random lol). Is there any type of cloth w/o loops, snags, ect that a leo wont get his nails caught on or anything like that available?? If anyone here uses cloth for their moist hides, what kind and where can i buy it??? i was thinking about using a sock, but i'd rather use something else than have to use a sock:D

I know people that use wash cloths in their humid hides. If you are concerned about claws getting caught, you could always wrap the cloth in a paper towel.

I asked about this a while ago. I used to use coco-fibre, but now I've switched to a piece of hanky sized cotton towel in their humid hide. I have only done the switch for 2-3 weeks, no problems so far; but its a pain if you want to take them out from their humid hides, because their little claws will hold on to the towel, not stuck, they just don't want to let go of their new towel...:)

I wash and disinfect the towels once a week (by washing machine).

I don't use humid hide at all now. Not one of mine ever used it and without it I never have a problem. And if there is a little piece of skin attached still I take it off with tweezers very carefully and have never yet had a problem. Though 100's leopard geckos not one would use it for shedding they would use there exo-terra den or cave for shedding. For breeders that know what there doing should not have to use a humid hide I know I don't have them without a problem.

yeah i haven't had any problems either without using it, exept when a little skin gets stuck on them. Just today my SHT possibly CT had a little shed on its nose. the thing is everytime i even walk up it runs back into its hide, so i dont have any way of getting it off. Thats why i want a cloth so i dont have to mist it more than once a day, and even that sometimes is a pain because im at school and basketball after school ect..

Hehe, besides a humid hide my tank has a humidifier, we got it because our geckos love the humid hide and humidity in general.

Don't make the overall environment too humid, they'll develop respiratory problems. So, I don't think the humidifier is necessary.

I find it a lot easier with out the humid hide. If they liked the humid hide that ther always in there you gecko becomes lazy. I have made it so even the dens that all leopard geckos really enjoy, would only be used for sleeping and that they would be still active out of the cave. As I here a lot of peoples geckos stick to there humid hides. From having logs(The fancy ones you buy at the pet store) and fake plants they have more cover and stuff to climb on and I see mine out all the time day and night. The babies get use to me fast and are handleable at as young as a month and if they had a shed problem I know how to take it off without them getting hurt.

All of mine loe their humid hide but I have a humid and dry hot hide and dry cool so they can choose which one they need.

I did use terry towel when I only had a few leos and washed it often, the fibers are a mess, they kick them out all over so I am using paper towels now.

One thing to remember is that in the wild they do spend a good) amount of time underground where it is damp (humid) so I use the humid hides and have never had a shed problem.

That is exactly why I have exo-terra and zoo med caves, dens, etc which are used as an all purpose hide. an I still have a warm and cool side an the caves and dens being fine for them to shed. I have only had 3 leopard geckos(2 adult breeders that know longer have problems shedding and a 2 month old baby that I sold after she didn't have a shedding problem). Out of a the amount of reptiles I have had through out all kinds snakes and lizards I have only had 6 minor problems that all got corrected. I would have to say my method works very well.

Ty, I have no idea what your post is talking about to be honest. I suggest a humid Hide a hot dry and a cool dry, you said no humid hide and the use of one makes leos lazy. So ...................

Also caves and dens do not help the shedding process unless they are humid.
