Coconut Fiber?

So I was talking to someone today and they said their herp vet told them to never use any substrate in any tanks as they can all cause impaction. Instead use shelf liner. Is this true? I know sand causes impaction but I thought all else was fine. I have a golden gecko and was told they need the coco fiber to keep the moisture in for humidity.

You may get some better answers if you post this in the correct section. But for my leopard geckos I use absolutely no loose substrates

NO shelf liner heated they can produce toxic fumes.. use tiles
