With the coming fall and winter season, I thought I'd remind everyone to get ready, now. Are you prepared to protect your valuable collection if an ice storm hits for 3 days with no power, or if your furnace goes out?
These things happened to us last year and luckily we were prepared. Here are a couple things you can easily do....
Invest a few bucks in small propane radiant heaters. Wal mart sells them cheap and they work great with no fumes to harm the geckos. They take the chill off the room and propane tanks are cheap and easy to replace for as long as your power/heat is out of service.
Buy enough 72 hr heat packs to be able to place one on every cave. This will provide a warm sanctuary for your gecko even if the house temp drops considerably. Place the heat pack on top of the cave towards the bottom back. Be sure to get your heat packs from a good supplier so they are fresh and reliable....do not use Ebay specials that have been around for years....they are cheap but many times, do not work.
The ultimate solution is an emergency power generator, and while outside of most of our price ranges, this is a great investment, particularly if this event happens when you are out of town. The generator will kick on automatically if needed and can run on natural gas to provide uninterrupted power to your furnace until the power kicks back on.
Best of luck.
