Hi. I recently took on a gargoyle from an owner who said she was moving house and could not provide enough space and time for her one year old gecko. Her partner's friend was a breeder apparently and so she said he came from good stock. Nice people but clearly not passionate about reptiles, or unable to be. He was very docile for the first few days, but about a week and a half later, now, he is not only docile but also rather flighty and panicked. He is not responding well to me. Now, this could just be that he needs to be tamed over time, but he is not eating much. I put in a gecko protein pot and he has barely nibbled at it in days, compared to my separate crested gecko who devoured his in days. We have tried feeding him morio worms and hoppers but he simply does not respond in any way, even when we hold them up to his nose for a few minutes. My gf suggested that he might be blind, because he acts as though he were. Unsure of himself, clingy, or else he just runs away, panicked. We are thinking of taking him into our local lizard shop as they are all very experienced. Any suggestions? I read somewhere that not eating and just staring into space, which he does a lot might be a sign of a stress response. So we've left him a couple of hoppers in his tank and are going to give me a few days break while we consult pet shops and whatnot. Any ideas? Thanks. (This is my first gargoyle btw, tho my crested and I get on famously and he gives me no trouble)
