confused about lights

I am very confused by this whole light thing. I understand that leos don't need light but the statement they are nocturnal makes no sense to me in this arguement. Nocturnal means they are active at night so what does that have to do with lights? I realise they don't bask in the sun but how does it stress them to have a light on during the day? In afghanistan and pakistan, etc where they come from is a hot sunny place, no? As long as they have shaded areas and hides what harm can a light do? I ask this because I have some live plants in my tank and have a light on for a few hours a day to provide light for them. Any input on this topic would be greatly appreciated, thanks:)

I agree with you that there is sunlight in their natural environment. Two things come to mind. One, the hides that we provide for them are not as dark as what they might seek out in nature. Two, most of these animals are raised in dark racks so they have no idea what natural sun is. So with this in mind they can be stressed by too much light which will lead to them not eating properly and can then lead to disease.

Hope this helps. I am sure that others can add to this.
