Constant shed problems...

Ok, I'm new to breeding leos, and my two oldest babies (~3 months) keep constantly having shed problems. I assumed my humidity levels were incorrect or something, but I keep water in their dish at all times, and they are in shoe box tubs....so I don't know if that is it or not...seems pretty darn humid in there to me...

So, my question is, do they need humid hides as babies? I have only ever provided those to my older geckos b/c I feared impaction w/the smaller ones.

They're just getting tired of me constantly soaking and poking at them, not to mention it really is a pain. Any advise would be appreciated...

Just to help...their set up:

Shoe box tub with:
UTH for heat source at one end
Water dish at the other
Paper towel substrate
TP Tube to hide in

Thanks!!

Andrea, I would suggest that you add a humid hide. Especially since they are having difficulty shedding. Even if you just add a small hide and wet the paper towel substrate under it. That will definitely help.

Thanks Jeremy...I'll try the wet paper towel in a hide...I was just concerned about putting coconut bark, etc. in with them. Thanks for the quick response.

Oh after reading Jeremy's post I'm guessing you use some soft of loose substrate in your humid hides? You can just make one using a tupperware container and paper towels.

You could always wrap the coconut bark/perilite in paper towels so that will get rid of the impaction risk. I lost a babie due to moss impaction from the humid hide. From then on I wrapped it up in paper towel.

Andrea,

All my hatchlings get a small hide (usually one of those plastic bottoms for small plant pots) with paper towels folded in fours under the hide. And, I mist the paper towels once a day at night.
