I am shipping out my first geckos next week. The high temp is only around 82 for that day and the low at night is in the upper 50's to low 60's. Should I use a cool pack or will the temps be ok without one? I am so nervous already!
I’m not an experienced shipped by any strength of the imagination (only shipped 2 geckos ever, and they where in the same box) but personally I don’t think they would need one, as their basking spot should be about 90, and 82 degrees is in the middle of the hot and cold side, so if the box stays inside like it should, I wouldn’t use a cold pack. Also most of the transportation will be done at night, so a cold pack might freeze them, and they shouldn’t even experience the 82 degree weather. But like I said before I haven’t shipped too many times, so it is probably best to wait for somebody who actually knows what they are talking about to come along, and tell you.
Thanks! I was thinking the same things though. I'll have 3 in the same box. I would be nervous that the one closest to the cold pack would get too cold.
I haven't shipped a whole lot of packages either but I would say you wouldn't need one if the night will get to the low 50's. As long as they are supposed to arrive by 10:30 the next morning I'm sure you'll be ok. Just remember it's better for them to be colder than too warm.
Thanks! I'm not planning on using one. It shouldn't be above 75 during the transit times. I think the cold pack would make it too cold at night even if it's in the lower 60's. From the searches I've done, I shouldn't need one unless it was above 80. It should be well below that by the time I drop it off and won't be that warm at 10:30 or even by noon that day. Last I checked, the high temp that next day is only supposed to be 82/83 and that would be late afternoon.
