So can someone explain to me just what all goes on during this "cooling period" thing that goes on in the winter and fall? ive noticed my geckos r hanging out more n more in the cool hide. they will go to the hot hide during the day but usually sleep in the cool one. maybe it is too hot but im getting a temp gun today to be sure (last temp gauge no longer works). so any info on this cooling period would also be nice. thanks.

the cooling period is to simulate winter, so when you knock the temps back up they think its breeding season.
Lots of breeders think it isnt needed, and just go by natural winter.

But for cycling (getting eggs all year round from different geckos) cooling is needed.

My herps I think can sense the season changes, generally the ambient tempetures in my reptile room drops 5-10 degrees in the winter. I think its too risky to do a full brumation with them. Its not worth the extra health risk that comes with a brumation.

Exactly, cooling isnt needed really, and geckos in no way need to brumate. :main_thumbsup:
