Even thought I havn't received my gecko yet I'm already thinking about updating her enclosure :p . As of right now she'll be going into an enclosure that has the bear minimum, it will consist of a 10gallon tank, UTH, med sized Exo-Terra Hide, humid hide, paper towel roll and water/food dishes that will mostly be small plastic ashtrays. I honestly can't pack anything into that teeny tiny tank that's it's been used and abused.

So I was thinking during December/January while I'm on my break from school and have a lot of time on my hands i'll be able to construct a new enclosure for the new year. It may sound stupid but I want her soon but don't have all the extra time and money at the moment to set her up the way I want.

Anyway back to the purpose of this topic. At first I imagined making a rock wall but then I thought I live in an apt with a cat, dog, birds and it'll be hard to air it out in the middle of the winter. Not like i have a garage. So I was thinking of getting a 20L tank (i will find a shelf that fits, its my mission.). In this 20L i wanted to make a second landing just give the little girl some more space to explore. I want the tank to be as vibrant and natural looking as possible. So i wanted to use Cork Bark/Tile as the base second landing. It kind of looks like a tree trunk. I was thinking of getting a big enough piece to wedge into the tank and use some glue to make sure it doesn't move. Does it sound like a good idea? Has anyone used cork bark/tile in their leo enclosures is there anything I would look out for?

Sorry for the long post but im feeling talkative. lol

I assume you mean 20G not 20L? That's a 5 gallon tank. Haha

And why couldn't you let stuff air out if you made a rock wall? It doesn't take that long. Do you have a balcony? A window? A friend with a garage, balcony, or window?

i think what she meant was 20g Long....yea?

but sorry lizMarie i don't have any experience with the cork bark. and you say it kinda looks like a tree trunk.. so is it like a branch type of thing then?

the only thing that catches my concern is if you glued it. would be able to get everthing else out.. and then, be able to clean around it, if it's glued in place?
i don't think you would need to glue it :)

No no. My bad. I knew that. I'm an engineering major, so I automatically assume L for liters.

Haha. Carry on.

I'm unsure about the cork bark. If you are concerned about airing it out (from my post?) you can easily do it inside a room. It wont give off some huge odor or anything, its just in the confines of the tank it can be a little stronger. Just setting it on a table for a week will be enough to rid it of the smell. To speed things up you can put a small fan near the cagea nd have it blowing air in/out creating some flow. I should probably reword that on my post...

Well, today I made a shelf level out of a thin slab of slate and some branch pieces. I found a dried out birch limb, cut some 6" sections that were straight, and put the slate tile on it. Luckily there were holes in the slate tile and I attached it to the "legs" with some small screws. Very steady, and looks very nice. Another option (the one I was going to use until I found my dad's slate tiles in his Bonsai gear), is to make 4 legs, and a top out of very thin plywood. Screw the top to the legs, then put tiles on top of the 'table' you just built. It looks clean and you can match the tiles on the bottom to blend it in.
