Hey gang, I made a 48x24x24 enclosure out of 3/4 pine and want to set up my lighting system with out the lamp dish.it would kinda sit inside at the top like fog lights. I wonder could this be a fire hazard? Once I get some heat mat I will switch to non heated lighting but wonder if there is any danger with this and as long as the heated lights are pointing to the ground that is tiled and has a few stones would that provide enough belly heat?

If the bulbs touch the wood it would be a fire hazard. I dont know how close they can get but I did it once by cutting a 8 in hole and screwing 1/4 in hardware cloth in the opening (with 5/8 wafer head screws), then had 100w light in an 8 in reflector sitting on the 1/4 mesh, had no problem.

That would not provide enough belly heat if the tank is 24" tall. UTH is best way to go.
