Hey guys, I'm a little worried for my leo Taffy.
I've only recently acquired her from a friend about a month ago. I've never owned a gecko, but did tons of research before taking her in. My friend told me she was a male, so stupid me just assumed she was until I noticed her underside had turned pink. I looked at her belly for anything unusual, which is when I noticed that she is in fact a female.
I read online pink underbellies can mean ovulation or pregnancy, along with the fact she hasn't been eating for the past few days. She has no impactions or hard lumps in her belly that I could feel.
I was not planning on my friend to give her to me when he did, so I only have the basic set-up he gave me with her for now. I do plan on getting her a much better set-up as I can afford it.
Here's more info:
- Sex: Female
- Age & Weight: Unknown, adult.
- How long have you owned your leo: About a month.
- Where was he/she obtained (ex. Pet store, breeder, wild caught, friend): Friend who purchased her from a pet store.
A) Health/History
- How often do you handle your leo: Was handling around 10-15 minutes per day (unless she's stressed), but have given her a break since my worriment.
- Is your leo acting any different today? If so how does he/she normally act which differs from now: She's been coming out of her warm hide more, spending more time in the moist hide.
- Has he/she had any problems in the past, if so please describe: None that I am aware of.
B) Fecals
- Describe (look any different than normal): Looks pretty normal for now.
- When was the last time he/she went: Day before yesterday
C) Problem
- Please briefly describe the problem and how long it has been going on: I noticed 3 days ago that her underside is more pink than normal, and she refuses to eat.
Housing:
A) Enclosure
- Size: 10 gal
- Type (ex. glass tank): Glass tank
- Type of substrate: Paper towels for now, I plan on getting eco earth coconut fiber substrate.
- Hides, how many, what kind: 2 for now, warm hide and moist cool hide.
B) Heating
- Heat source: UTH mat, nocturnal bulb heat lamp
- Cage temps (hot side, cool side) Between 92-94, 75-77
- Method of regulating heat source: Self-checking, I plan on getting a better setup for this.
- What are you using to measure your temps: Reptile thermometers inside the tank.
- Do you have any lights (describe): Yes, small heat lamp with a low-watt night/nocturnal bulb. I beleve 8 watts.
C) Cage mates
- How many (males, females): Just the one
- Describe health, or previous problems: None to my knowledge, her tail has been a healthy size and I've been through 1 shed with her which went well.
Describe Diet:
A) Typical diet
- What you're feeding (how often, how much): 4-5 large crickets every other day.
- How are you feeding (hand fed, left in dish, ect): Left in tank, or tong-fed.
B) Supplements (describe how often)
- What vitamin/minerals are you using (list brands): ExoTerra Calcium +D3, ExoTerra Multi Vitamin.
- What are you gut loading food with: Fluker's cricket quencher (the green jelly), Fluker's high-calcium cricket diet. Also slices of carrot and potato on occasion.
