I'm hoping to get a crestie in the next few months, but I want to make sure I have the set up right first! I'm only getting one crestie, and I plan to house it alone.

  • Medium or Large critter keeper, eventually upgraded to a 12x12x18 Exo terra
  • Eco earth substrate
  • Branches and leaves for climbing
  • Small water dish
  • Pangea food available at all times (changed daily)
  • Crickets once a week (dusted with calcium w/ D3 powder)
  • Mist 1-2 times daily
  • Humidity 50% minimum, aiming for 70% (monitored with digital hygrometer)
  • Temps between 72 and 82, no heating or additional lighting (monitored with digital thermometer)

Am I missing anything or incorrect on any of this? Feel free to criticize and correct me!

If youre getting a baby I would put it on paper towel first instead of eco earth right away, if youre getting an adult thats too small of an enclosure start with the 12x12x18. I change my pangea out every 2 days instead of daily. Everything else looks good to me. Good luck I just recently got my first cresties and theyre really fun

Thanks! I meant to specify that the critter keeper would only be for a baby. Will do on the paper towels and changing pangea every other day!

Also, does there need to be a temperature gradient? For example, is it okay if the whole enclosure is 75 degrees? Or does one side need to be 70 and the other side 80?

I just have mine at room temperature. Im by no means an expert on them but mine seem to be thriving the way I have them. Make sure you let the enclosure dry out a bit before misting a second time, I was doing twice a day and got mold on all my cork bark :( now I mist just once a night and it seems to do fine but I live in an area with relatively high humidity.

Great, thanks! I've always thought room temperature was okay, but I wanted to make sure first. Do you know of any good breeders? I'm hoping to get one from an expo but might just end up ordering online.

JB Cresties has some pretty cool ones. I was going to order from her but I got mine as a package deal someone local to me got them for their kids and the kid lost interest so she was just giving them away. One was in pretty good shape the other not so much but hes doing well now. I figured if I could save them for a bad situation that was better since these guys are all just pets for me and I have no intention of breeding them.

Yeah, I'm only planning on keeping one as a pet. Thanks!
