Hi. Just found this site. Have just purchased an exo Terra hydrometer and thermometer for my new terrarium. Should they be placed inside or outside of tank? Thank you in advance.
Hi Bev, you'll want to place your hygrometer and thermometer inside the terrarium for the best possible readings. Place them near where your gecko will be spending most of his time. You can also move them too after a while
Definitely not as easy to read but what's important is what the parameters are inside where your gecko is. The ambient room temp won't help your gecko stay cozy and healthy!
Actually cresties do very well at room temp. If you want a good way to measure temperatures I would look into getting an infrared temperature gun. I have one and love it; use it all the time for all my reptiles. Planting live plants in the enclosure helps keep humidity up, but they also do well with just a quick spray once or twice a day.
Thanks for that Amanda. Never seen those but sounds like a good idea. Will see how I go. Am new to keeping a gecko and he's small as only a baby. Very shy and difficult to get to handle him. Hoping he gets braver soon. x
Babies are jumpy. Not sure how long you've had him, but it's best to keep the handling to a minimum for the first week or two. Let him get comfortable with all the sights and sound of his new home. Then get him out for short periods of time, not more than 20min because you don't want to stress him out. The mellow out so much as they grow.
Thanks. Only had him a few days, guess I'm impatient lol. Just want to make sure we end up with one we can handle rather than one that we can't. Will leave him for a while longer then.
