Before I even bought a gecko I purchaced a cricket kepeper and those orange ckicket cubes. So I purchased 12 crickets put them in there with the food, and in two days about six were dead. The room is about 72 degrees, but it was not totally dark in there, any answers to why they died greatly aprieciated.

I really don't know why they died, but some just die. Even if you have food and the right temps. some will die. You should make a big sweater box modified into a keeper. you can make one with the sweater box and some screen. and next time get alot more crickets

Did you dust them ? if you did that could be a reason ....
only dust right before the feeding

Keeping crickets alive while you feed them out over time is a complete and utter nightmare, besides the smell and chirping they just die off. I find that i keep crickets alive best by not giving them ANY of that cricket gel or feed stuff especially those orange cubes not even my dubia will eat that.

When i kept thousands of crickets for feeding i kept them in a huge bin or tank whatever i had available at the time with toilet paper rolls and egg flats. since i wasnt breeding them no heating source just room temp.

fed them carrots and greens along with oranges they loved it!

now whenever i get crickets ( normally in trades or from friends for free ) I feed them the same thing i give my dubia the chow along with fruits and veggies and they live a very long time. infact i had a few crickets get into my dubia bins and they survived over 4 months in a colony of over a thousand dubia eating and drinking with them and calling all night.. i wish the dubia would of killed it.... so give it a try a bin or tank with nice ventilation and feed carrots greens oranges cat food ect.. no substrate and just egg flats and toilet paper rolls. worked well for me. oh and i also gave them water gel but they didnt sworm it much.

I hate crickets, and never keep them anymore... They never stay alive for me when I want them to, and they don't die when I want them to. :main_rolleyes:

Mine tend to die like someone else said above if feeding them those premade foods. I just use let over veggies & potatoes... usually them eating the calcium (which is in the premade food) kills them off. So I dust before feeding.

I stick to supers :p
