Hey, it looks good! You might wanna make the ventilation better though. I like what you did by putting the mesh over the cutaway openings, but I'm not sure those square holes provide enough air. If I were you, I'd cut out a much bigger opening. Make it so that almost the entire lid is mesh. If it's not too much trouble, use that rectangular indent in the lid as a guideline and just cut that whole area out and cover with mesh. You know what I'm saying?

Im attempting to make my own cricket colony now that I have seen this (thank you!) I tried to do the things you have done except I am using a 10 gallon tank instead. hopefully they will start breeding cause Im going through around 100 crickets a week! lol

when i bred crickets i kept them in a standard bin like that.. however i did not use substrate for the entire bin just a nest box with soil so it was easier to swap the eggs into a nursery bin. this makes life MUCH easier. otherwise great work!

Sounds like very good advice, along with the ventilation-expansion suggestion.

I can't stand the smell of crickets, but looks like you made a pretty good setup! Good luck!

Looks like a good set up to me! I agree about expanding the ventilation! I was losing a bunch of crickets for the longest time. Dad finally helped me make a screen mesh top from a screen mesh I bought at Walmart and wood that he was using for another project. Before that, humidity would be the main killer of the crickets. Now they have enough hides without being over whelming, and a paper towel that I run through the water, and put food on top in one section of the forum instead of scattering the food like I used to. Hopefully I'll have a colony started soon. I have a 10 gallon with a few small crickets I found in the mix, so maybe that'll help some how? I just don't know what to do about heat, I can't afford another bulb for them unfortunately and can't turn the heater on all the time in the sun room. I wish I could get a timer thing for the heater so it would only be on for a certain amount of time.
