Sorry if this is considered in the wrong topic, but it concerns feeders.

I am looking for an easy way to house 1 to 2 week old crickets ((for a viper gecko baby)). They escaped the cricket keeper with ease and etc. Anyone have an effective way to house them?

Also, does anyone know of anyone who sells this size of crickets and takes checks? I have no credit card, and I'm having trouble finding any suppliers in my area that take checks.

Thanks again!

For the cricks, that I was forced to get (mealworm shortage) I use a 66-qt Sterilite tub. Jut put the egg crates that they are shipped in, in the tubs. Then cut out a small section, and put METAL screen in the place of the whole. This allows for ventilation, but not escape. Put that on top, and keep the egg crates as far from it, as you can.

Sorry I don't. I just order mine of the net.

You can get a debit card through the bank. It's the same as a check but in card form. Everywhere will take a debit card. You just put it through like a credit card when you order stuff.

Have you checked into paypal? I think you can put in your bank account information and pay that way.

Critter cages (plastic clear cages) simply rock for this purpose, I use them for pinheads and one weeks in the one gallon size. There is a bigger size that would work fine for two week old crickets. Keep in mind Viper geckos also enjoy small mealworms, young superworms and mini-mealworms. Feed them a variety of these items and they will thrive!

I keep the lids off of mine as they cannot jump as high as the top.

Have you checked into Sunshine Mealworms? They are up your way.

good deal, glad u got a debit card! I use the same thing halley uses for my crickets and it works awesome. Just make sure you use something that will cut through the plastic of the tub pretty well. I ended up busting mine and luckily I got it cut out bigger so it works and looks nice. I did not have much to work with though, just a carpenters knife. I also used regular window screening for mine and it lets a lot of air in. I am just wondering how many crickets I could hold in there? Anyhow fish aquariums work also so anyhow good luck..........Shaun

If you go to a pet shop they will run you .10 cents or more each. If you go to a supplier, let's say Sunshine Mealworms in Oregon where our original poster is from, they sell 500 crix for $11.00, 1000 for $16. That is typical. You have to add shipping on top of that, however, it is still a much better deal that going the pet shop way. Many pet shops do not segregate cricket sizes to boot, and that is very, very, very important to get the right size for your particular type of gecko. A cricket should be 90-95% of the head size of your gecko.

Here's how I take care of my insect food for 300 plus geckos:

I'm sure you can, it will not be as fresh as what you can get from a Repashy dealer like myself, and it will likely cost more. The Repashy Insect Gutload is very high quality too. Sometimes the cricket places sell gutloads, you can look into that too.

;) I ended up getting a few from the reptile store where I got my viper gecko from.

Sunshine Mealworms definitely has some good deals.

As for gutload, have you considered making your own? A lot of my friends who own reptiles actually started making their own gutload for their feeders. Depending on what ingredients you want, it can be pretty cheap (generally).
