I have one gecko that all of a sudden just lost interest in mealworms. She will go look at them and then just turn her head. She jumps on crickets though. Is this normal?? Just curious.

Ya, geckos are divas sometimes. They just randomly get tired of some food type and want another. One of mine was like this. After a couple days it went back to eating mealworms.

My Super Snow Enigma will only eat crickets. Not sure what his problem is..... But man he loves the crickets.

Haha, ok. Yeah, she just stopped eating mealworms. It was funny, cause she used to eat them like crazy!! I put her in a new environment though about a month or two ago, and ever since then, she will just eat crickets. Funny thing, this one is also a snow. Hypo co-dom from JMG.

They just get picky sometimes. When mine do that, I just keep offering them mealies until they're hungry enough to realize that it's not worth starving when there's food right in front of them. It works like a charm.

How long would you wait to "starve" them, just curious? We have a tang who refuses meal worms as well, but crickets are a hassle to buy every week. All of the other geckos love meal worms, and I'd like this one to eat them as well.

Mine has gone like 3 days without eating, but I just can't bring myself to starve him any longer, so I give in and feed him the crickets.

We have 3 different types of feeders to suit the ever changing gecko moods. Crickets, mealworms and superworms. Some will only eat one feeder, others will eat anything you give them. Some will change their moods all the time.

I've had geckos refuse the mealies for up to a week before they finally give in. A week of fasting for a gecko in good physical condition does no harm, and it's not uncommon for my geckos to fast for up to two weeks during the dead of winter (even with nonfluctuating, warm temperatures). I know it's hard when your geckos haven't eaten in a while, but it's kind of like weaning kids off of candy. Sometimes it takes a while for it to sink into their thick skulls that you're not going to let them live off the stuff. ;-)

Yeah one of my geckos loves mealies and the other one will eat maybe one a day but ifthere is crickets in there he will eat as many as he can get it totaly depends on the gecko and also the gecko can get burned out on mealies over and over again so it is good to change it up.
