Crickets/mealworms

Hello! I was reading on this website last night
http://www.tangerinegecko.com/tgcare.html
and under the 'On arrival' section it says that you shouldn't feed a young leo crickets until it is first eating mealworms. I just got my baby leo this week and he is only eating crickets. I didn't feed him any crickets last night and had only mealworms out for him but he didn't touch them. Is this information correct or should I just go back to crickets?

The info is subjective to ones style of keeping leos. Personally, I've never offered meal worms to my leos unless that was all they would take. And at that, it was only 1 gecko, a female Tremper albino, that I purchased back in '99. Not only did I have to feed her mealies, but she also sucked at hunting crickets when she finally took them which resulted in me having to hand feed her crickets -- annoying to say the least when a gecko won't eat mealies per the originator's instructions and furthermore when you have to hand feed 8-10 crickets or pinch the hind legs off so she can attempt, though poorly, hunt crickets on her own.

All my leos are kept and rasied on crickets, all my new arrivals are offered a few to see if they are interested once they've had a couple days to settle in, and occasionally I'll feed super worms, pinkies, or even small fuzzies. I've had geckos refuse mealies and even super worms. I've never had, but that lone female, refuse crickets.

If crickets are what's working I'd stick with them for now and if you want to feed solely mealies then just offer a dish with them in it. Eventually the gecko will start taking them.
