Crocodile gecko questions

Hello! My pet store got in two crocodile geckos today, and I'm seriously drooling over one of them. I do have two questions about their care though:

a) Do they require a ReptiSun bulb? Or are they nocturnal?
b) What kind of substrate should I use? I'm reading several different things on the internets, and I'm not sure which one is the best. I was considering Eco Earth so I could plant a couple of plants in there, but if he wouldn't appreciate that I would like to know before doing it.

I'd use repticarpet and just use potted plants. Buy one gecko unless they are pro and can sex those guys. They are extremely hard to sex since male and female are exactly the same looking.
