hi, got question...

Graffiti, 3-4 month old leopard gecko...I have noticed a new development...
her tail is curling... the tip half of the tail, is curling like a pig tail... I can straighten it by hand but she is not holding her tail like the way the other one is...no cat-like wave when hunting...no normal pissed off tail when i reach in to check her out... (since she is young and cop an attitude)...So, what is up with that? what does that tail mean? I hope she is not lacking anything in foodwise...

Thanks

man she scared me... she jumped out of my hand while i was taking pic of her... fortunally the floor was carpeted and i was kinda bent over on the floor trying to find good light...

The first pic is how her tail is now.. the last two is how it was before...(if i grabbed the right pic, i think the very last pic is Macbeth...if so...sorry)

not sure what to say about it changing now and never before.

i have seen them born wit it being curled, and even have a gecko that was hatched that way.

I to ahve seen geckos being born with a curled tail, usually straightening out over time, but have never seen a tail curl as it ages.

Should I worry? She is eating pretty good. She is moving pretty good. She is pooping okay as far as I can tell. At first I thought her eyes were kinda big and bulging compared to Macbeth...but it was only a reaction to the lamp I was holding to see them in a better light temporary.

She does have a habit of curling up in the corner of the tank to sleep even if i got a couple of hides available.

has she ever been housed with other geckos?

maybe she got bit on the spot where it kinks?

or maybe she got it stuck between something and it caused a kink, if so shes prolly lucky to still have her tail.

Tails are part of the spine, one of the many symptoms of MBD are bent spines, bones, and tails. I would get some liquid calcium from the local bet.

i don't know if it is calcium problem cause the other one is doing fine.. and i dust the food every other day...course she doesn't eat as much as the male does...she is a little smaller than the male and she is not thin...she is not a good hunter as he is...she tend to miss the crickets that i give her half of the time but she does eat good when she catches them...they are not too big on mealworms..they like to eat small superworms...I buy the superworms for my beardie and pick out the smallest ones...

i have noticed that at times that her tail uncurls and be almost normal and then when she gets excited or go after a bug her tail would curl up again but not as tight as it was...the very tip of her tail looks kinda thin and kinda flat on one side...or seems to be so???

Interesting.....I can not tell by the pics but is there any type of old wound or scare right where it begin to curls. Sounds and from the pics kinda looks like it might at one time been a small wound. Not a serious wound but enough to cause the curling as the skin grows back over the scare. Just a thought.
