Hey guys i have an old 29 gallon tank lying around dimensions are as follows

[FONT=verdana, helvetica, geneva]30" x 12" x 18"

there isn't a top on the tank and because of the dimensions i actually want to lie the tank down on it's side (so that the floor is 18" instead of 12") and the open top will face me.

My dilemma is that i need to put a cover on there. Is their a place to get a custom top made that's either a sliding cover or preferably a door?

Any help?

Before we went to a rack system, I did this with several of our 10 gallon tanks to provide more floor space. I just bought the regular screen lid and bought tank clips to clamp them on securely.

You could use an old screen lid & cut out the screen. Get a couple of pieces of plexi that would slide along the groove that is made by the attached screen frame & the lip of the tank.

Carlos, you can buy plexiglass at Home Depot. They will also cut it for you. You just have to measure what you need first. There are also many different types of screen lids with doors that you could clamp on. Some examples are on this page

Depends on what Home Depot you go to. The ones around here no longer cut plexi. One day they did, one day they didn't..

You'll get a better cut if you use a real hardware store. Look for a local one, something like Curry or Ace. The small guys who care about their customers.
