Hi guys,

I was just wondering if anyone has ever ordered cages from this company before? I just bought 2 cages from them and I'm very pleased but I'm having a hard time figuring out the best way to heat the cages for my Leos. It's hard to explain how they are made unless you've owned one - hence my question. :) Right now I am using a 150 watt black night bulb which puts the temp about 87.5 degrees, but the flooring is made of formica (like a kitchen counter) so I'm worried it isn't quite warm enough. I thought about using some type of substrate but wasn't sure what would be best. The cages are 59 gallon - 42" X 18" X 18". I appreciate any advice! Thanks! :)

What temp are you measuring, air or ground? Leos need underbelly heat rather than warm air above them. I am not sure how you can accomplish that, though. Maybe someone else can help.

hmm, maybe you need to hang the bulb alittle lower, i house all of my geckos on papertowels in racks, but in your cage, what you might have to do if you cant get the bulb lower would be to build that side of the cage up alittle bit, and put some kind of flat rock directly under the light so that the rock absorbs the heat for the gecko to lay on. Not being able to use an undertank heater or heat tape makes heating alittle harder :) Maybe if you could post pictures of the cage someone might be able to help you alittle better. For substraight if you go the route of building a side up, i think that Eco Earth would work fine for ya

Thanks guys! I do have paper towel down under neath their main hide that is under the heat bulb. I will definetely try the idea of raising it up in the air a little bit. The temp is very close to what it needs to be so hopefully they will be okay.... 87.5 last I checked. If my geckos do have a problem with it not being warm enough inside what will be the first sign of illness? I want to be able to keep a close eye on them - I don't want sick geckos! Thanks again for the advice. :)

Fort Wayne, huh? Howdy neighbor!

The first sign if the temps aren't high enough is that they feed poorly. And prolonged low temps would have a negative impact on the geckos digestion as time goes by. Hope this helps! :)
