Anyone remember this story about my Houdini?
http://geckoforums.net/showthread.php?t=45068
Yeah, so I decide on Wednesday that I'm going to do something nice for my husband and clean all 12 hatchling cages, THOROUGHLY, so that he doesn't have to do it that night.
So, I'm taking out each hatchling, one by one, as I clean cages, and I get to the hatchling right before Houdini, hatchling #6.
We used to have a cardboard box that we'd place each hatchling into as we cleaned cages.
It's a tall-ish cardboard box, CONSIDERABLY taller than they are on their hind legs. Heck, we even used this box for our adults when cleaning cages.
I place hatchling #6 into the box, place the box on the floor next to me (I have limited counter space downstairs due to my roach bins), and I'm cleaning away at the sink.
I glance over at the hatchlings every-so-often to check on them as they wait, and most of the time, they're looking back up at me.
#6 was NO exception to that.
So, I get done cleaning his/her cage, and I go to grab him to put him back into his enclosure.
Riiiiiiigggghhhhttt.
No gecko.
So, I immediately think, "OK, I've done this before, but this time I'm going to need a bigger container because the hatchlings are bigger now and can climb out of and tip gladware containers."
I grab a spare adult-sized tub and lid, and I rig a trap by placing medium sized super worms into the tub with some calcium ICB to add more of a scent, and placing the lid as a ramp up to the container.
After the second night of no hatchling, I really lost hope. I thought there was no way we'd EVER get that little one back.
I was cleaning rhac gecko cages this morning, and my husband was cleaning the leos' cages downstairs.
He comes up and in his hand is little hatchling #6. A little dusty, cob-webby, and might have some shed stuck on the toes (I couldn't tell if it was shed or if it was cobwebs), but was absolutely FINE.
My husband moistened the humid hide, put some worms in a dish, put #6 back in his enclosure, and in a couple hours I'm going to go check on him to see if that is shed on his toes.
After realizing he was no longer in the cardboard box, I grabbed an extra adult tub and lid, and I started placing hatchlings in the adult tub and latching the lid on it.
I have NO IDEA how he climbed OUT of that cardboard box when the box is well over a foot tall, but it must've dug its nails into the cardboard.
That's ALL I can think of.
I'll post some pics in this thread later.
I'm SOOO happy and RELIEVED that we found this hatchling.
