Deflating egg

I have an egg that is soon to be hatching soon, it's incubating at around 88F. It has been 39 days now so Im guessing soon. It's definately fertile, but the problem is it's starting to deflate a little bit on top... Is this a problem? Its clutchmate already died sadly =(i'll get some pictures up in a bit

they usually hatch within hours of the egg deflating, so there should def. be one in there when you get back! Sorry to hear you're sick and had to work anyway.. GOOD LUCK!

Well.... no hatchling =( The egg is still a bit deflated, Im starting to wonder if it's just another fluke? It's rosy red inside and I can see some black stuff in there...

hmm... Well the black should be the shadow of the gecko. In my experience, though, there usually isn't any more red/pink when the gecko is soon to hatch - they glow white apart from the baby's shadow - but I've seen an egg change from glowing red/pink to white in one day's time. I honestly think if it was deflating due to hatching, though, it would have hatched already (because I think they deflate due to the gecko actually breaking through.. someone correct me if I'm wrong please).

If you could post some pics, it would help greatly ;)

Well I came to the conclusion that this egg is probably a fluke. Im still keeping it but one heck of a year so far lol... 6 dead eggs. 2 died from temp fluc, 2 died from embryo drowning without me touching it... and recently this one and its clutchmate died for no reason.. temp is fine.. humidity is fine... I guess horrible luck. Im still keeping it in the incubator for a miracle. I do have 2 more that look promising and is fertile

Don't feel bad, I seem to be having a bad year with eggs too. I'm not doing anything different from last year, but I'm getting a lot of egg failures. I thought some were drying out, so I misted the container and ended up over moistening some eggs, causing the to swell. So I re did a few containers, but still I'm seeing some deflated eggs, etc... I think I'll order up a better incubator asap for one thing. Other than that I'm not sure what I can do. I've only hatched two geckos so far this year, one leopard and one fat tail. Hopefully both of us have improved luck with it!

I hope you get better luck. If the egg is dead then it could of plumped up again because the fluid got hard(like thick Jello) Or it could be alive an healthy. I also had some eggs get deflated and thought they might of died but 2 days later they hatched. Theres still hope.
