I am in Colorado this week for work, Monday thru Wednesday, so I decided to stop by the Designer Gecko store. I called ray last week and told him I would be in the area and could I stop by, Ray said sure stop on by. So on Monday the 17th I drove out there. It was about an hours ride from were I was staying but it was worth it. Ray and Carol store is definitely unique.
When you enter the store you walk into, for a lack of a better word, a living room. A very cozy place to site down and talk.
On the table is Ron Tremper's book, of course. (Ray also has them for sale). Next to this are copies of Reptile Magazine and at least a 20 page homemade Designer Gecko's care guide.
When you look forward you see a half wall which separates the "Living Room" from the "Gecko Room". In the Gecko room Ray has two very comfortable chairs that are perfect for viewing all of his racks. These chairs allow you to stay comfortable while viewing the bottom of the rack or the top.
In addition to having the gecko racks, Ray has a very classy shelving system for all his gecko specific goods from water bowls to Exo Terra Enclosures.
The overall feel of the store is very home like. You feel very comfortable there. Ray tells me he sometimes talks to potential customers for two hours to make sure they understand everything. Ray will even go to the customers home and set everything up for them, as long as they are within 10 miles of his business.
I think that this concept was great. I told Ray that I would love to do the same thing were I live.
