Leona May be male. I didn't think so at first but when i looked at the Top Bulge seems like its going to grow male. Then I saw the Pores in the Second Photo ( Brown Dots in a V Patteren ) Right under the Second bulge. I think Leona is a male. I once got confused thinking mine was Female long ago but Achilles turned out to be male. I don't think your Pet Co knows what they are talking about the signs are way to obvious. Unlike mine at the time I couldn't find Pores, Aggression, Territorial Behavior or Large Bulges. After a while i spotted all of that so you just have to be twice as keen. Having a male isn't too bad and unless they are of age i doubt they would breed. Since you already introduced them to each other for all you know they already mated. Some Geckos mate on first contact. Some take months. All i know is if you don't want to deal with smashing eggs i'd by a Hovabator 1062 - N. Its the best model just incase you think about breeding Hatchlings just for fun. Though I'm going to warn you, Breeding risks Death to the Gecko that lays the egg. It also gives opportunities for bacteria and a lot of diseases to attack her. So basically if she gets a bad health condition while she's pregnant or just laid the egg it would probably kill her because her immune system needs time to heal. There are a lot of risks that come with breeding besides the fact that every time you breed a female your taking days - months even years out of her life, Or so I've heard. For now keep Pets and read about breeding just in case.Ok I am a little worried though. Someone mentioned to me are you sure they're both female? SO now Im a little worried. I took some pics of their bottom side and it kinda looks like Leona might be a LEO? But im not a pro, I thought I would ask everyone who definately can tell the difference. Please can someone help? They told me at petland it was a female. The first three are "LEONA" and the last one is diamond. Is there such a thing as a vet who neuters reptiles? I know Diamond loves her or him so much. Thanks everyone! View attachment 593 View attachment 594 View attachment 595 View attachment 596
Sorry there is no way to Neuter a Lizard, And If its possible its VERY Painful. Right now you can just buy separate cages like i did for Athena and Achilles. Or you can hope they will be ok. I suggest you buy another cage because Athena and Achillies begun fighting after a while even though they seemed like they really liked each other. Its good that Leona and Diamond are being positive right now but watch out males will bully.Thank you very much Dark master. I have the number of a reptile vet here in nyc and i think I will call when they are open and see if there is such a thing as neutering a male. I know how much they love each other. I feel bad to take away diamonds new friend, it was petland I went to and they also thought he was an albino which i didnt even care about. But I only wanted female! I told them that!
Ugh I may have Stressed you a bit too much. Breeding isn't always ending bad. It normally ends bad if your Leopard gecko dosent take Vitamins or the correct calcium doses. Any way you took the safer side but just in the future remember that your gecko isn't going to 100% die. Im just saying that Breeding comes with ALOT of risks. The risks are smaller and almost never happen if your doing things correctly but if you went through Egg Binding and infection Im sure you wouldn't be too happy. Just research it first.I loved him but I knew once i found out that he was male that Diamond would be at risk for death since pregnancy puts one in alot of discomfort in the least and worse case death. I knew he was very happy, but I figured next time around I will look alot closer and I am properly educated on whether a Leopard Gecko is male or female now. I figured I BETTER let go and take him back and inform the store he is certainly male. I really dont want Diamond dieing or going through continous pain or discomfort due to having a boyfriend constantly get her pregnant. I felt horrible today, and I still worry if Diamond will be ok and if she is already pregnant. As it is she definately looks larger than usual in the midsection.
Thanks for Calming it down, I may have spoke a bit too much about the Risks. If Leona could use computers Im Sorry Just for future Reference Please never send geckos back to Pet Co/Pets Mart. They Face cruel lives and you don't know how much it means to them to be taken care of.If Diamond is carrying eggs, she should lay them in about 2 weeks. Watch for her digging in her moist hide. But if it was hard to tell if LEO was a boy, he may not have been ready to breed either. Did he do alot of scent marking? Dragging his tail (actually those pores) around the cage? You might get lucky. Otherwise, remember that if Diamond did breed, she will be able to lay two eggs every couple of weeks from one mating. You will be able to see the eggs through her belly.
And don't fret too much about her laying eggs if she is gravid. It is hard on the girls, but its not usually that hard. I've got one female who has laid 14 eggs so far this season, and though she has lost some weight, she is still in good condition. Diamond looks to be in extremely good health. I thinks she'll be a great mom! Happy Mother's Day!
