Different size rack same thermostat?

I know that you can use the same thermostat if you have two of the same rack. The rack that I have now is small and has 2 rows with 8 feet of 3in flexwatt total. I want to build a new rack that will have 4 rows with 16 feet of 3in flexwatt.) I would put the original rack on top of the new one.
Since the flexwatt will be different lengths, do I have to get another thermostat?

In order for it to work, the total wattage of the flexwatt would have to be the same in both racks. Even then, you might have temp differences.

How about getting enough flexwatt to run through both racks and still use the thermostat you've already got? It might be cheaper that way. You could attach the racks together by simply adding on to the existing one.
