Dimmers

How well do the random home depot dimmers work? I have to buy one tomorrow because my stupid cat ate through the power cord to my thermostat. Tonight I just layered a whole bunch of paper towels over the heat mat and pray to god the temps stay at their 80 degrees through the night. It was hard getting them down that low. Thanks

The dimmer alters the amount of power going to the heat source and do fine as log as your room temps stay the same, if the room temp goes up so does the heat and if it goes down so does the heat.

Normally my house stays at 75 all the time. Will I be able to get my cage temps up to 90? I know I need to just suck it up and get a new thermostat I just need the dimmers to hold me over until payday.

my house stays around 65 and I don't have any problems getting the 90 hot spot. the dimemr will hold you over til you can get a new thermostat.

Thanks for the help. I grabbed a dimmer today. Do you think it is ok to just turn my UTH off at night since it never goes below 75 or would you keep it around 80 at night?

I keep my heat on mine all the time, they can go to the cool hides if they want to at night.

When i use a dimmer, I use a digital thermometer in one of the boxes and check on it often, adjusting the temps accordingly. My flexwatt should be the same temp from rack to rack because they are all wired together. I just bought a new thermostat and it broke in 2 days, so Im doing the dimmer/papertowel thing right now untill I get a thermostat this weekend.
